Sonic Heroes was developed by Sega Studio USA and published by Sega. The level designer is Takashi Lizuka. The art director is Kazuyuki Hoshino. The filed art director is Hiroshi Nishiyama. The sound director is Jun Senoue. Sonic Heroes was built on a number of platforms including GameCube, PlayStation 2, Xbox, and Microsoft Windows. In Japan, the game cube version, playstation 2 version and Xbox version were released on 30th December 2003. In North America, the playstation 2 version and Xbox version are released on the 27th January 2004; the gamecube version was released on the 5th January 2004. In PAL region, the gamecube, playstation 2 and Xbox version were released on 6th February 2004. The windows version was released on 17th November 2004 in North America; 26th November 2004 in PAL region; and 9th December 2004 in Japan. The menu and characters are controlled by keyboard, analog joypad and game controller.
Sonic Heroes has received a lot of good reviews. The positive points of the game include 2D game play style, vibrant environment and graphics. Sonic Heroes has a number of faults in the level designs, game voice acting and camera system. However, the game manage to sell many copies and becomes of the best sellers for the 3 consoles including Xbox, GameCube and PS2.
Sonic Heroes allows you to switch between three characters. When you are controlling one characters, the other two characters will follow. Each of the character has their own unique power including speed, power and flight. The speed is used for fast stages; power is used to break the objects while flight is used to reach high platforms. The player must use these abilities to face the opponents in the 14 stages. The abilities are represented by an individual color. For example, speed is represented in blue color; flight is represented in yellow color; and power is represented in red color. The characters can boost their energy and increase their efficiency by obtaining specific items or reaching checkpoints. Every team is equipped with the Team Blast skill which allows you to destroy the enemies when the Team Blast meter becomes full.
The story plot of Sonic Heroes begins with Sonic running around the world searching for adventure. Later, Tails and Knuckles inform Sonic about the message from Dr. Robotnik that he will dominate over the world in 3 days. In this way, the trio team was formed and they embark on their adventure to impede Dr. Robotnik's evil plan. However, there are other characters that formed their own teams to search for Dr. Robotnik. The team chaotix was hired by an anonymous client to find Eggman. Rouge encounters Shadow and accidentally woke up Omega. After a brief fight, Rouge team up with Shadow and Omega to form a team called Team Dark in search of Eggman. Amy, Cream, and Big has also teamed up to find Chao Chocola, Froggy and Sonic because they assume all these happened as a result of Eggman. When all the teams reach the final stage, they realized that they are not chasing Eggman but Metal Sonic who disguised himself as Eggman.
In Sonic Heroes, the player will get to choose from one of the 4 tems that are available which are Team Rose, team Sonic, team Dark and Team Chaotix. Each of the team has their own storyline but all four teams will eventually meet together at the final stage.
