Did you know that every year millions of dollars are earmarked for government grants for minorities? Minority groups such as African Americans, American Indians, Hispanics, Asians, and women, along with many other minority groups currently in the United States. These grants are given to minorities for a multitude of reasons. Do you qualify for one?

It is amazing how much of these government grants for minorities go unclaimed each year because people simply do not know that they exist. These grants are available for a myriad of needs. The best thing about these grants is that, unlike with loans, they never have to be repaid. As long as you qualify for the grant, you can literally receive free money and other incentives from the government for being a minority.

The majority of the government grants for minorities and government grants for women are set aside for those people seeking to gain a higher education. Many of these grants are familiar to us, such as the United Negro College Fund (UNCF), the Scholarship for Disadvantaged Students, the Association for Asian Studies, the Indian Adult Education Fund and the Harry Truman Scholarship. And these are only a few of the grants out there that are available for minorities and women.

There are several websites, such as available to help you discover which government grants for minorities you might qualify for. is the official site for grants regulated by the federal government. It should be able to help you find all the information you need on how to apply, what grants are available, as well as the applications necessary for applying for grants. These applications can be, in many cases, downloaded to your computer and printed out.

But there's more than just college grants out there. Many of the government grants for minorities and the government grants for women and minorities are there to help with low income housing, bills, taxes, and even health care costs.

Some of these government grants for minorities are very hard to get however, so you should apply as soon as you find a grant that you may be eligible for. Sometimes the deadlines for applying for one of these grants can be tight, so it is important to start your application as soon as possible so that you do not miss the deadline for turning your application in.

Also be sure that you are filling out your grant applications completely. Many times an incomplete application will be automatically declined and you will not get the chance to correct your errors or apply again. There can be stiff competition for some government grants for minorities, so it is imperative that you fill out the application exactly as stated in the instructions and attach the appropriate documentation as required.

Do not assume that the grant board knows your situation because they do not. Your job is to show them why you feel your are deserving of the grant monies over someone else. They will not know this if you do not follow the directions and fill out your application correctly.

Once you have applied for one of the government grants for minorities, there's little more to do than be patient and wait to hear if you have received the grant. Odds are you won't be given every one you applied for, but you might be fortunate enough to get some needed help without the need of paying it back.
